Rail shooter, Shoot'em up

Role: Solo developer

Description

This is my first complete game project.
It takes inspiration from the Star Fox game series. One thing to have in mind is that I used music and sound effects from Star Fox 64, I made that decision to lighten the workload, since my focus isn't on audio, but rather on creating game systems and mechanics.

Engeneering and technical breakdown

The challenge:
Create a data driven based structure to make level design easier, this involves the obstacles, enemies and bosses.

The solution:
I created reusable classes for obstacles, enemies & bosses whose data is entered from the engine inspector avoiding the necessity of re doing code.

The real challenge came with the boss class, in Star Fox 64 boss fights progress through stages and I wanted to do the exact same thing, to do so, I created a stage class to define each stage behavivor, say, advance conditions, advance animations and stage specific attacks.

One last thign about bosses is how they recieve damage, I added the possibility to use weakpoints or take damage from anywhere as well as conditions to advance through each boss stage, not to mention that damage may not be needed through some stages, some are just to play a transition animation.

Last but not least, I also created a class to create attacks that are data driven as well, it just needs the projectile texture and some poroperties as frecuency, max ammo or reload cooldown.
